Quick Summary A leading Serbian anti-drone technology company integrated an AI-driven dual-sensor electro-optical payload — 2MP 35X visible camera, 640×512 thermal core, laser range finder, and NVIDIA edge AI — to close a critical tracking-latency gap. The system cut control latency to a 10ms baseline, achieved 100% operational uptime, and reduced false alarms by over 90%, securing approval for broader deployment across Serbia's critical infrastructure network. |
Client Overview
A leading anti-drone system technology company in Serbia.
The client faced a critical capability gap in securing low-altitude airspace against fast-moving, agile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Standard surveillance hardware failed to provide reliable aerial counter-drone monitoring due to slow frame rates and high data transmission delays — tracking subsystems could not lock onto targets quickly enough to trigger automated countermeasures.
To eliminate tracking latency and ensure continuous 24/7 target acquisition, a high-performance, AI-driven electro-optical payload was integrated into the client's anti-drone infrastructure:
• Dual-sensor imaging: A 2MP 35x visible camera for long-range daylight identification, paired with a 640×512 thermal imaging core (50mm lens) for uninterrupted night operations.
• Precision telemetry: An integrated Laser Range Finder (LRF) feeding real-time target distance and spatial coordinates directly to interception subsystems.
• Ultra-low latency processing: High-speed 50fps video streaming paired with an industry-leading 10ms control latency to eliminate tracking lag.
• Edge AI automation: An NVIDIA Smart Control module enabling onboard AI to instantly classify targets and filter out false alarms like birds or debris.
A total of 2 units of the 2MP 35X visible camera, 640×512 with 50mm lens and Laser Range Finder system were deployed in this project.
• Zero-lag target tracking: Reduced video transmission and control lag to an industry-leading 10ms baseline, completely eliminating target skipping on high-speed quadcopters.
• Continuous 24/7 airspace visibility: Achieved 100% operational uptime across both deployed units, maintaining a clear tactical picture through complete darkness, fog, and smoke via the 50mm thermal core.
• Automated threat classification: Lowered false alarm rates by over 90% by leveraging NVIDIA Smart Control edge AI to instantly differentiate between birds, debris, and actual rogue drones.
• Instant interception hand-off: Cut weapon/jammer cueing times down to milliseconds, providing the integrated LRF with the ability to stream precise, instantaneous distance telemetry to automated jamming subsystems.
• Successful field validation: Validated operational readiness of both prototype units under rigorous field conditions, securing immediate approval for broader regional deployment within Serbia's critical infrastructure network.
“We were facing a major security gap with fast, agile drones. Our old surveillance hardware just couldn't keep up—the frame rates were too slow, and the data lag made it impossible for our defense systems to lock onto targets in time. This new AI payload completely changed the game for us. By cutting control latency down to just 10ms and giving us crystal-clear dual-sensor tracking day and night, the lag is completely gone. The onboard AI is incredibly smart; it instantly filters out birds and debris so our automated systems only trigger when there's a real threat. We finally have reliable airspace protection that actually works in real time.”
